• Emir of Kano, Herbert Wigwe, business and industry titans grace event
Polo has traditionally been the exclusive sport of maharajahs, marquises, billionaires and millionaires, and the game’s stars still tend to be the rich. Its advent and rapid growth in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, cannot be appreciated far from the input of the financial giant, Access bank.
Access’ contributions have improved the sport considerably no doubt.
Interestingly, however, last Saturday, the Access Bank/Fifth Chukker Polo Day event, which took place at the prestigious Guards Polo Club in Windsor UK, was a huge success.
The guest list included His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Beat FM OAP, Toolz, Head, Corporate Communications, Amaechi Okobi and private clients of Access Bank.
Also present were the Managing Director, Access Bank Nigeria, Herbert O. Wigwe and Chief Executive Officer, Access Bank UK, Jamie Simmons. Everyone in attendance was treated to a glamorous champagne reception at the clubhouse before proceeding to lunch.
Then there was the kickoff game between Team Delaney and Keffi Ponies, with Damian Duncan and Ahmad Wadada as respective patrons. It ended at 7-6 with Delaney in the lead. The second game of the day featured four members of the world’s best polo team Adolfo Cambioso’s La Dolfina. Star player, Cambiaso’s cute son was noticeably on the Poroto (Adolfo Cambiaso Jr) along with his daughter Mia Cambioso.
The Emir of Kano awarded the day’s winners, bringing to an end what was truly a successful event for Access Bank and Fifth Chukker in one of the most renowned polo clubs in the world.
