Yes, there is no gainsaying Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, a very hardworking Nigerian lawmaker who represents Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, is gifted with wisdom of the ancients. He does not live for the glitter and noise of the celebrity arena hence his decision to embrace modesty and not throwing a gaudy celebration for his 40th birthday some days ago.
As he clocks another year, a big 40 at that, Dasuki refused to deify licentiousness and scorn wisdom. That is why he refused to throw a lavish party in celebration of his birthday. More importantly, he firmly impressed it upon his closest friends and associates to ditch any idea and plans to host him to any lavish birthday party.
Unlike too many of his peers who would rather ignore the harsh realities of the day to cavort with friends and family, Dasuki, like a catechist burdened with the sins of his parish, called for deeper reflection and sensitivity to the plight of the country’s long-suffering citizenry.
However, when Dasuki clocks 4o last Saturday, June 30th, he did not roll out the drums. His beautiful wife organized a surprise dinner for him and his few friends. His decision, not to throw a high-octane party, was borne of a conscious need to identify with people’s pains and contribute his quota to the alleviation of widespread poverty in the society.
Abdussamad does not turn a blind eye to the needy. Rather he pays good mind to their needs. And in this respect, his generosity proclaims him. He is indeed generous at heart. He embarks on a humanitarian odyssey like a kind of poet and painter whose imagination is unclipped. He paints picturesque scenes in lives severely marred by squalor; he encrusts bleakness in shiny varnish and, as he is able, he seeks to mend small damaged lives here and there.
