Donald Trump won almost every state primary on Super Tuesday—and the former president’s niece Mary Trump isn’t happy.
The Republican presidential front-runner and rival Nikki Haley squared off in 15 states’ primary contests to mark Super Tuesday. After over a dozen states voted, Donald Trump increased his number of delegates to 797, according to the Associated Press. As a candidate needs 1,215 delegates to secure the nomination, his results reaffirmed what was expected—that Trump is all but confirmed as the Republican nominee for November’s presidential elections.
Mary Trump, a writer and prominent critic of her uncle, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share her thoughts on the results. She used the opportunity to criticize Donald Trump, who she claims “relentlessly attacks our institutions” and “uses increasingly violent rhetoric to divide us.”
Newsweek emailed representatives for Donald and Mary Trump for comment on Wednesday.
Mary Trump started her post by detailing that millions of Americans had voted to make Donald Trump the Republican nominee. She asked those who voted for her uncle to reflect on what their decision to do so means.
“You just voted for a man who: 1. Relentlessly attacks our institutions and has promised he will be a dictator on ‘day one,’ determined to destroy our democracy for the sole purpose of enriching himself and staying out of prison,” she posted to the social media platform. She continued:
“2. Has been found liable for rape, and is accused of many other acts of sexual misconduct and assault.
“3. Uses increasingly violent rhetoric to divide us and endanger anybody who doesn’t support him.”
She also claimed that her uncle uses anti-Semitism, misogyny, Islamophobia, and anti-immigrant hatred to divide the American people.
Mary Trump finished her post by thanking Republicans who didn’t vote for Donald Trump, writing: “But if you voted for him, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself whether you really care about America as much as you think you do. See you in November.”
Like most posts made to X about Donald Trump, Mary Trump’s post proved to be divisive.
People took to the comments to support Mary Trump and share their disappointment in Tuesday’s results.
“And a person who invoked the espionage act. A huge national security threat especially when financially burdened. In no other industry would he qualify and receive a security clearance. Serious stuff not to ha ha about,” one X user said about Donald Trump.
“Thank you for trying so hard Mary! If they would just listen, how much greater America could be! For everyone!” said another.
“His cult doesn’t care. This is what they *want* him to do, and to behave like they have always wanted to. These ppl, alone, won’t win him back the WH,” someone else wrote.
However, others took the opportunity to show their unwavering support for Donald Trump and slam Mary Trump in the process.
“Those who ‘like’ what @MaryLTrump say are liking a woman who: 1. Wouldn’t be known if it weren’t for the UNCLE she derides. 2. Derides her uncle because her grandfather picked him as the family successor, because her own father was a raging alcoholic who drank himself to death. 3. Is incredibly jealous of her uncle,” one person commented.
“Nobody hears your calls!!!” said another.
A third added: “Trump 2024! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
On Friday, Republicans in American Samoa will cast their ballots in the upcoming primary and caucuses. Then next Tuesday, Republicans will vote in Georgia, Mississippi, Hawaii and Washington.
According to polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight, Trump is expected to get 77.5 percent of the GOP primary vote share, while Haley, his one remaining challenger, is polling at 15.7 percent.
When the primary season is over, attention will turn to the presidential election, with Trump expected to again face Joe Biden in the race for the White House.
