•As Rivers state boils under armed robbery and cultist attack
When priority is misplaced, the most important is left for the least important. Nigerian politicians are known to always prioritize personal pleasures for public convenience; they would spend billions of naira for their personal gains and abandon projects that will benefit the general populace.
Recently, the Senate president acquired luxury cars worth billions of naira at a time when the whole country in grinning under harsh economic crisis. As if that was not all, Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has also tolled the lane of wasteful spending by acquiring a mobile luxury office.
TheCapital learnt that residents of Port Harcourt were thrown into shock yesterday when the new acquisition zoomed through the busy streets of Port Harcourt; some saw it with admiration while many saw it as a waste of tax payers’ money that should have been used to better the lots of the people.
There have been complaints about sudden surge in crime rate in the state as robbers and kidnappers have made the state their haven, but instead of governor Wike spending to acquire security apparatus to combat crime, he opted for mobile luxury office. The new automobile luxury office is said to be one of its kind in Nigeria. Although the actual cost is still unknown but a source confirmed it cost the state nothing less than N300m.
It is unclear the purpose of having a mobile office when the state has one of the most beautiful state house in Nigeria. But wastefulness seems to be a way of life to many politicians in this country.
