Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of Ogun state, says Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), an ex-head of state, told him that he was hostage to those who helped him overthrow Muhammadu Buhari, his predecessor.
Babangida overthrew Buhari as a military leader in 1985.
The likes of the late Sani Abacha, Aliyu Gusau, and Gado Nasko, among others, reportedly played key roles in the coup that ousted Buhari.
The former governor said Babangida told them that he had no choice but to listen to his fellow coupists.
“You see, even under the military, I always tell you people that you should praise us that we were able to produce papers that were still sellable under military dictatorship,” Osoba said.
“You people operate under a civilian government. You don’t know what it was. The truth is that those military people knew that in-house. I will tell them the home truth.
“I remember one incident when Felix Peter, myself, and one or two other people met Babangida when he was military president.
“We bluntly told him a lot of things that were wrong with him and his government.
“It was so devastating that Gen. Babangida said, ‘Let me tell you boys, I am hostage to those who staged the coup and those who put me here.
“And if I didn’t listen to what they wanted, they would get me out in seconds. And that there are no absolute powers.”
Osoba said Babangida appreciated the feedback and promised to present their concerns to his “mentors and promoters.”.
“So, you see, behind closed doors, we told them the home truth. So when we wrote stories, they already knew that we had told them the truth. And then tolerated us,” he added.
Both IBB and PMB they have a different direction interm of leadership IBB is the man of people who a military uniform while in another side operations as a civilian ruler, because he beat you with left hand and come back to assist you with right hand that’s Maradona style white in the case PMB he doesn’t trust anybody that’s why even when you come closer to him you will ended without even changing your dressing that’s why majority of those who fight for him to win elections at the end they ended without getting a single appointments instead he invited Professors and outside to join him in running his administration. But PMB himself is a very honest person but at the end he appointed those who betrayed him while in the case of Bola Ahmed Tinubu that’s a real politician who considered those behind him when given an appointments and he doesn’t tolerate nonsense even among the members of his cabinet when they do wrong he will fire them. Why President Tinubu is finding difficulties in running his administration is because when he took over he needs to study all the situations in the country but he went ahead and announced the removal of fuel subsidy on the Day of his sworn in that’s why since from that date to date Nigerian are suffering. As President even if the previous administration removed the fuel subsidy why they didn’t implemented it during their tenure in this President Tinubu needs to study on why the previous administration shift the system to take effect from his regime, which he needs to study first before taking a final decision.. May God Almighty continue to guide and protect the current administration to succeed and getting peace and stability in our beloved country Nigeria Ameen
