In order to win the 2019 Presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken measures to prevent any form of distraction. According to them, any member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) involved in serious court case cannot stand for election into any position in the National Working Committee (NWC).
While there are some high-ranking members being accused of fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) but are yet to be taken to court, a few others are already facing charges.
Indicted PDP chieftains undergoing trial are former Interior Minister, Abba Moro, PDP national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, ex-governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, owner of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Raymond Dokpesi and former acting chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Haliru Bello Mohammed, among others.
However, the PDP is keen on having members with no questionable background to fill the NWC positions.
The decision, it was gathered, was to prevent any form of distraction that may affect the party’s efforts to reposition ahead of 2019.
The development may have informed the declaration by Metuh that he would not contest for any position at the convention.
The opposition spokesman was dragged to court by EFCC from allegedly receiving N400million from ex-National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki (rtd) in the build up to the 2015 general election.
