Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command yesterday rescued a 65-year-old man who was locked up in a room for 20 years in Kaduna metropolis.
It was gathered that Environmental Health Officers under Kaduna North Local Government Area who visited the scene for routine checks forced their way into the room and was amazed to see a sickly man naked on the floor.
An eyewitness said the environmental officers visited the house yesterday morning to check some beverages stored there but discovered a man locked in a room.
The officials quickly alerted the Magajin Gari Divisional Police Office, whose personnel went to the scene and rescued the man.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, police spokesman Muhammed Jalige said preliminary investigation revealed that the man urinated and defecated in the room.
Jalige said the Kaduna state Commissioner of police, Yekini Ayoku, has directed a full investigation into the matter.
The freed man, who gave his name as Ibrahim Ado, was later taken to a medical facility for treatment.
It was unclear at press time who put the man away for two decades, or why.
