The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed reports claiming that he is planning to go back to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Naija News reports that he made this known on Sunday during a meeting with party stakeholders held in Ilesa, Osun State, where he spoke about the party’s direction and the situation in the country.
Aregbesola, a former two-term governor of Osun State, said he has no intention of rejoining the APC. He explained that the claims circulating about his return are not true and should not be taken seriously.
He also spoke about the current state of the country, saying that Nigerians are facing difficult living conditions. According to him, the present leadership at the federal level has not met the expectations of the people, especially in areas of welfare and security, which has led to more hardship for citizens.
He urged members of the ADC and supporters in the state to stay committed to the party, saying it remains a strong alternative political platform. He added that despite pressure and criticism, the party continues to gain strength and should not lose focus.
Aregbesola also spoke in support of the party’s candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam Iwaloye, describing him as someone close to the people who understands their needs and is committed to improving development in the state.
“I want to appreciate you all. Despite the attacks, oppression, and intimidation by those who think they can continue to intimidate us, you have remained resolute, firm, and solidly behind our cause. We cannot express how grateful we are to you.
“Let me tell you, I am not planning a return to the APC. Such information is just a figment of their imagination. I have no reason to join the party again. The truth is that the current handlers have derailed from the vision and mission statement on which we built the party.
“Those in charge of our affairs at the national level have failed to uphold the basic principles of government, the welfare and security of the people. So, we do not have any reason to rejoin them. We are ADC, and despite their attacks, we continue to grow in leaps and bounds. Do not relax or waver; victory is ours by God’s grace.
“Our candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam Iwaloye, is a man of the people. He is loyal, committed, and deeply desires to return our state to the pedestal of development at which we left it in 2018. We urge everyone to support us. We will not let you down”, he said.
