Former spokesperson for the immediate past Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, asserts that there is no basis for anyone to conclude that Osinbajo has exited the political arena or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Akande expressed this viewpoint while interacting with journalists on Sunday in Lagos.

Notably, Osinbajo has not been prominently involved in various political activities since his departure from office in 2023, leading to speculation regarding his potential withdrawal from the APC and politics in general. …CONTINUE READING

Recall that the former Vice President participated in the APC primary in 2022 but was unsuccessful in securing the party’s nomination, ultimately losing to President Bola Tinubu.

He held the position of Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.

In the meantime, some political analysts have suggested that Osinbajo’s reduced engagement in political matters may be a consequence of his defeat in the APC primary, while others contend that he is allocating less time to politics due to his recent role as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).

When questioned about his former principal’s political position, Akande refrained from offering personal opinions regarding Osinbajo’s status.

He emphasized that Osinbajo has not communicated any intention to leave politics and, to his knowledge, continues to be a member of the APC.

Akande further indicated that Osinbajo would participate in any APC event that necessitates his attendance.

“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC. He is still a member of the APC.

“If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t think he has left the party,” Akande said.
