Rauf Aregbesola has turned a deaf ear to his reported suspension by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Insiders label the decision a strategic move aimed at sidestepping distractions.

Aregbesola is at the forefront of transforming his political group, Omoluabi Progressives, into a formidable political movement in Osun State.

The election to choose the successor to incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is set for 2026.

The popularity of Aregbesola’s Omoluabi Progressives is such that it’s attracting members from leading political parties, including the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level.

According to insiders, “The suspension of Aregbesola by the APC at this point is seen as an attempt to capitalize on his growing influence and that of his movement. Therefore, Aregbesola and his supporters have refused to engage with the APC to avoid giving the development any further traction.”

Aregbesola founded the Omoluabi Progressives to provide a platform for his supporters, many of whom were expelled from the APC amid the intense power struggle that eroded his influence.

Aregbesola Omoluabi Progressives Aregbesola, a former two-term governor who gave the APC visibility in Osun State, lost control of the party to Oyetola and his backers—including former senators Iyiola Omisore and Ajibola Basiru—during a fierce internal conflict that spiraled out of control.
