Some South Africans are expressing concerns regarding their Home Affairs Minister, Leon Schreiber, following the sighting of Chidimma Adetshina, the First Runner-Up of Miss Universe 2024, in Cape Town.

A viral video circulating on X features Miss Universe Africa and Oceania enjoying her time at a café in the Waterfront area of Cape Town. Many are seeking clarity on how she was able to return, which could help address public concerns and foster a constructive dialogue on the effectiveness of current immigration policies… …CONTINUE READING

Miss South Africa: The Beauty Queen And The Xenophobes, The Untold Story Of Chidimma Adetshina

In October 2024, the Department of Home Affairs claimed that an investigation had found that there was prima facie evidence that Adeshina’s mother may have committed fraud and identity theft.

The department further announced that it had cancelled Adetshina and her mother’s IDs and travel documents after they failed to adhere to an order to make submissions as to why their documents shouldn’t be revoked.

Adetshina was forced to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition amidst backlash and accusations of not being a South African.

The beauty queen became a target of xenophobic attacks due to her mixed heritage – her father is Nigerian while her mother has Mozambican roots.

The situation escalated when claims of identity fraud related to her mother surfaced, prompting the Department to investigate her citizenship status.

Adetshina decided to step down from the SA competition and later went on to win the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant.
