Isah Ambarura, a member of the house of representatives, has formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The lawmaker, who represents Illela/Gwadabawa federal constituency in Sokoto state, is the deputy chairman of the house committee on rules and business.

Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the house, read the defection notices during plenary on Wednesday.

Ambarura said he left the ruling party after “wide and careful consultations”, noting that the new political alignment will enhance his capacity to serve his constituents.

“My decision on this was informed by circumstances beyond my control within the APC, hence it compelled me to defect respectively,” he said..

The parliament has recorded a wave of defections since the beginning of the year, ahead of the 2027 elections.

On Tuesday, Muhammed Jajere, the lawmaker representing Fika/Fune federal constituency of Yobe state, moved from PDP to APC.

Last week, four Kano lawmakers — Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo federal constituency), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni federal constituency), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam federal constituency), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko federal constituency) defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ADC.

Thaddeus Attah (Eti-Osa federal constituency, Lagos), Usman Zubairu (Birnin Gwari/Giwa federal constituency, Kaduna), and Sani Noma (Argungu/Augie federal constituency, Kebbi) also left the Labour Party (LP) and the APC for the ADC, respectively.
