APC NWC Members In Marathon Meeting With Tinubu

Embattled National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Adamu, on Friday led members of the National Working Committee to the campaign office of the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the Central Business District in Abuja on Friday.

The visit, which held behind closed doors for hours, also had Tinubu’s running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima; National Vice Chairman for South-West, Isaac Kekemeke; National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel; Deputy National Chairman for North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, and other notable NWC members in attendance.

The development came two months after the delegation paid a congratulatory visit to the former governor of Lagos State barely 48 hours after he won the APC presidential primary on June 7.

Although details of their recent visit was sketchy as of the time of filing this report, a source believed it might not be unconnected to the prospect of wooing Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, and the need to resolve internal wrangling among his former co-aspirants and aggrieved party chieftains over the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Tinubu, who had been courting Wike through proxies over his 2023 presidential ambition, met the Rivers State governor in London on Monday.

Two days after his visit, the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, also met with Wike in London in what many believed was a move to neutralise whatever plan Tinubu was making to lure Wike to his camp.

Earlier on same day, former President Olusegun Obasanjo had also held a closed-door meeting with the governor in a move aimed at building broad support for the aspiration of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The duo had recently threatened to mobilise northern Christian electorates to vote against Tinubu, in February 25 poll over the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Their agitation was a fallout of the negotiation led by the Northern governors and Tinubu, which culminated in the latter’s choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as a vice presidential candidate.

Aside from the risk of losing Babachir and Dogara, Amosun, the APC has been pressured to sanction the duo of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola over alleged anti-party activities.

While the latter was accused of colluding with the opposition in a move that saw the ruling party lose Osun to the PDP, the former has been labelled a ‘disaster’ waiting to happen in Ogun State.
