Bloggers goofed: I was never taken hostage – Aliko Dangote

In the race to be the first to break the news, the online community has been awash and bombarded with unconfirmed reports by bloggers and online news websites alike. The latest is the news that Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has been taken hostage by gunmen during a raid on an hotel in Mali and the news has spread like wild harmattan fire.
TheCapital, in our characteristic way of confirming reports before publishing, contacted one of the aides of the business mogul and we were told that Aliko Dangote was never taken hostage in Mali. He said although Dangote travelled to Mali on a business trip he had since returned to Nigeria before the Mali hotel attack.
Africa’s Richest man, Aliko Dangote, has also refuted the reports in a tweet via his Twitter handle @Aliko Dangote. Dangote said: “Rumour about me being held hostage is false. I was in Mali yesterday. Thank you for your concern. My prayers with those involved.”
