BREAKING: New IGP Disu Removes Top Police Officer

The newly inaugurated Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, has officially removed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin from his position as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).

This major administrative change comes exactly six months after Hundeyin took over the role.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the decision was finalized on Thursday morning, marking one of the first significant personnel changes under the new police leadership.

The move has sent ripples through the Force Headquarters in Abuja. While the specific reasons for the removal have not been formally disclosed, the timing coincides with a broader restructuring effort initiated by the new IGP.

This development follows less than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu inaugurated Disu as the 23rd substantive Inspector-General of Police, replacing Kayode Egbetokun.

Inside sources at the Force Headquarters confirmed that the directive for Hundeyin’s exit was issued early Thursday. The atmosphere at the public relations department is reportedly tense as officers await news on a successor.

While Hundeyin was widely respected for his professional background and communication skills, high-level shifts are common when a new police chief takes office.

“The Force Public Relations has been removed this morning,” a reliable source stated. The source added that while many expected Hundeyin to serve a longer tenure due to his expertise, it is standard practice for a new IGP to handpick their core team. “We don’t know who will take over from him… unfortunately, he was affected” by the new changes.

Hundeyin, a native of Badagry, was originally brought into the role of FPRO by the former Inspector-General, Kayode Egbetokun. He came to the position with a robust academic and professional resume.

He is an alumnus of Lagos State University and holds a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

Beyond his academic achievements, Hundeyin is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the International Public Relations Association (IPRA).

His career highlights include a stint as the PPRO for Zone 2 Command in Lagos and international service with the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

As IGP Tunji Disu begins his tenure, the removal of the FPRO suggests a fast-paced transition period for the Nigeria Police Force. The presidency and the police hierarchy are expected to announce a replacement for Hundeyin shortly to ensure continuity in the Force’s communication department.
