In a troubling incident, Alhaji Zubairu Usman Garba, the district head of Birbyang in Plateau State, has been abducted by armed individuals.

Legit cited a report on Sunday by Vanguard as stating that the SBM report revealed that Nigeria had at least 5,450 deaths caused by violent conflicts and crimes from January to August in 2025.

This incident follows the tragic killing of the village head of Shuwaka, which occurred despite efforts made to secure his release through ransom payment.

Community leader Tarus Dugub has emphasized the need for increased vigilance, pointing out that bandits may be shifting their activities toward the Kantana Area.

Confirming the attacks in a statement in Jos, a local politician, Tarus Salim Dugub, warned residents of Jhar Chiefdom that they were being besieged, Nation reported.

“What was a sporadic raid at first has turned into a concerted attack by ruthless bandits. The bandits attacked Birbyang Ward in Kantana Area last night and abducted the District Head of Birbyang,” Dugub stated.

He explained that the wave of insecurity noted a disturbing trend in the attackers changing targets. “This unfortunate event is another black day for our country, and it is now apparent that the bandits are increasingly transferring their operations from Garga Area to Kantana Area,” he said.

Dugub was outraged at the killing of yet another regional leader. “It is regrettable that within one week, we have lost one of our most revered traditional leaders, the Village Head of Shuwaka in Kyaram District, Garga Area, who was abducted and subsequently murdered following millions of naira paid as ransom,” he stated.

Over 5,450 people killed, Plateau. Legit cited a report on Sunday, September 14, 2025, by Vanguard as stating that the SBM report revealed that Nigeria had at least 5,450 deaths caused by violent conflicts and crimes from January to August in 2025.

This is the total of all the victims: civilians, security forces, fighters, and self-defense forces in the nation’s war zones.

These brutalities have instilled fear into already vulnerable groups. From the middle belt, to the north-east and to the broader south, the nation has seen tragedies plotted by gunmen, insurgents, bandits and armed herdsmen, Gunmen kill 10 at meeting venue in Anambra.
