Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lauded Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as an emerging “political General” whose leadership is being shaped by the challenges he faces.

Jonathan’s remarks came during a chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area, where he highlighted the Governor’s resilience in navigating political hurdles since taking office. …CONTINUE READING

Addressing the gathering, Jonathan noted that adversity is a crucible for leadership, emphasizing that Fubara’s trials will strengthen his political acumen and solidify his position in Rivers politics.

“I know you (Gov. Fubara) are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet. I don’t like to say certain things. This is the first time you are holding a top political office. You will face a lot. But remember, nobody becomes a General without fighting wars. Whatever challenges you face now are preparing you to be a General in politics. With your commitment and the support I see from the people of Rivers, God will see you through,” Jonathan said.

The former President appealed to the people of Rivers State to rally behind Fubara’s administration, stressing the strategic importance of peace in the region for national stability.

“We want a peaceful Rivers State because it is the center of the Niger Delta. If we create problems in Rivers State, we create a crisis in the Niger Delta, which is detrimental to our economy. We need a peaceful state, and we want the Governor to remain calm and focus on his work,” Jonathan added.

Governor Fubara, who was honored with the chieftaincy title of Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers, expressed gratitude for the recognition and support from the Etche and Ikwerre communities.

During his remarks, Fubara pledged continued commitment to developmental projects aimed at improving the lives of Rivers residents.

“You are aware that we recently awarded road projects in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities. We will ensure these roads are completed, and in the next few months, we will come here to commission them,” he stated.

Fubara also assured the people of his administration’s dedication to maintaining law and order. “We will continue to follow the rightful path and reach our promised land. Thank you for your patience and support,” he said.

The Governor acknowledged the unwavering backing of former President Jonathan, noting, “He has stood by me through this difficult period of our administration.”

The event also celebrated the 10-year reign of Eze Nwala as a traditional ruler, with Senator John Azuta Mbata, who chaired the occasion, commending the monarch for his service. Mbata urged traditional rulers to uphold their roles in fostering peace and security in their domains.

The ceremony coincided with the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition, where Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to celebrating and promoting the rich heritage of Rivers State.

In the face of political challenges, Fubara continues to draw inspiration from the support of influential leaders and communities, aiming to solidify his legacy as a leader committed to progress and unity in Rivers State.
