EXCLUSIVE: Kwankwaso Set to Dump NNPP; New Party Reveals

Barring any last-minute changes, former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso reportedly reached this decision after delegating Buba Galadima to initiate negotiations with ADC leaders.

His move follows the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party faction led by Agbo Major, against that of Ajuji Ahmed, who is aligned with Kwankwaso.

Meanwhile, the ADC in Kano has been gaining momentum, largely driven by the activities of former APP Chairman, Ibrahim Ali Amin. His growing influence is evident in the increasing number of political stakeholders visiting his residence, with many already regarding him as a key figure in the party’s structure in the state.

Sources reveal that no agreement has been reached regarding party structures. The ADC is expected to conduct transparent congresses open to all aspirants, as well as inclusive primaries—an approach that may contrast with Kwankwaso’s known preference for consensus-based candidate selection.

It remains uncertain whether Kwankwaso will back a governorship aspirant from his political camp or align with other contenders such as Ibrahim Ali Amin or Ibrahim Khalil.
