A political chameleon, in his characteristic manner exhibits the power of changing colours with the environment, so as not to be easily detected. But with Nigeria’s evolving democratic dispensation his type are getting exposed on daily basis. If not, how do we begin to describe a so called legal adviser to the ruling political party whose stock-in-trade is to say one thing at night and do the exact opposite the next dawn?
One is talking about no other than the conscienceless ingrate in the mold of Muiz Banire, whose increasing anti-party antics are diametrically opposed to that of the body he says he serves. A few instances would suffice. Not too long ago he went to court using a mole in respect of Mushin 2 seeking injunction to restrain LAISEC from conducting election without joining APC as a party to the suit.
He was trying to be clever by half but he was exposed. He and his associates went to court with seven buses in surreptitiously trying to outwit the leaned judge. But the latter had to remind our new SAN that APC should be joined. Without blinking an eye, the judge threw out the suit! His rented crowd were dazed
As it happened with Odiolowo, where he attempted to use his political lover to upturn what was a legal party election so it happened with Mushin2. Our man lost out again. But we know too well that he would not learn a lesson or two from the mistakes of the past. That triggers the pertinent questions: Was it not the same Muiz Banire that supported incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, known for his anti-party activities, against the APC? He was.
Again, was it not Banire who met with the legal luminary, Wole Olanipekun(SAN) pretending to fashion out how to move against the controversial APC primaries in Ondo State only to appear the following day in support of Bello against Faleke? He was.
Not done, he attempted but all in futility to set up legal hurdles in the path of APC primaries in Lagos. And you ask yourself has this man got no morals, no shame at all? The answer should be obvious to discerning minds as the sun to the cloudless sky.
Indeed, the good people of Lagos have shown him that they are much wiser than his mounting mischief making. Tomorrow they will troop out en mass to participate fully in the local government elections which Banire wanted to stop by crooked means. They know that Governor Ambode who has amply demonstrated high level of intelligence, panache in power politics, political sagacity and leadership dexterity to navigate the swelling waters of inter-party opposition means well for them.
They know that when Gov. Ajimobi of Oyo state described him recently as a bridge builder across all divides, going by his humility and honesty of purpose it was no exaggeration. They are also aware that when Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State referred to Ambode as the Governor-General of Nigeria he was not playing with words.
For, any politician who has employed uncommon administrative wisdom to pilot the affairs of Lagos, a microcosm of the country in such superlative form with achievements in security, infrastructural development, education, healthcare delivery, transportation and job creation within two years can translate that to a wider spectrum.
Oh yes, Lagosians know their friends from their foes. Banire is certainly an enemy camouflaging as a friend. They would dine with such a person with a long spoon. The die is cast. Tomorrow is the D-Day and the results would show that the pendulum always swings in favour of the people’s wishes.
