The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has officially stepped down from office, bringing an end to days of uncertainty surrounding his position.

His resignation, which takes immediate effect, was communicated in a formal letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In the letter, Gwarzo made it clear that his decision was not forced. He said it was a personal choice taken after careful thought and wide consultations.

According to him, the move became necessary in order to protect the stability of the state government and prevent unnecessary distractions.

“I, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, hereby tender my voluntary resignation from office, with effect from 27th March 2026, pursuant to Section 306 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). This decision has been reached after careful consultations and deep reflection, guided by my current experience, commitment to the peace, stability, and overall interest of the good people of Kano State,” he said.

The former deputy governor stressed that his exit should not be misunderstood. He insisted that it does not suggest any form of guilt or misconduct. Rather, he described it as a deliberate act aimed at strengthening governance in Kano State.

Gwarzo noted that the political climate and ongoing developments in the state influenced his decision. He explained that stepping aside would allow the administration to focus fully on governance without being weighed down by controversies or internal pressures.

“In view of the prevailing circumstances, I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the State to move forward without undue distractions. This resignation is made voluntarily and in good faith. It should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but rather as a conscious decision in the interest of institutional integrity, democratic values, and public service.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government has yet to issue a detailed response regarding his replacement or the next line of action. However, sources within the government say consultations are ongoing to ensure a smooth transition.
