Gwarzo who made the appeal while addressing party loyalists at the Coronation Hall, Government House, insisted that Kano is tired of the way security operatives are encouraging Bayero’s stay after the court affirmation of his dethronement. He lamented continued use of the police and military to oppress the state government, warning against any attempt to truncate democracy in Kano.
Gwarzo worried that the development got worsened on Wednesday when the police deployed fully armed officers and military vehicles on show of strength on the metropolis. He declared that Kano has appointed its emir.
According to him, ” We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come and take out the emir he enthroned and kept in a graveyard. The people of Kano especially youth are tired of this nonsense.
” We are also surprised that in a democratic setting the Police are being used to attack peaceful protest. They confronted and fire teargas on youths who were on peaceful protest on Wednesday. We even had that police shot live ammunition to disperse the youth.
” In the evening on yesterday (Wednessday) the military vehicles were used to parade the metropolis, they parked in front of my house. We are telling them that there is no shaking, this is democratic setting. Democracy must be upheld whether one likes it or not. We will not rest in our oars and we are fully behind youth that came out to express their feelings”. Gwarzo added.
The Police command yesterday raised fresh alert of plot to unknown group to organize violent protest in Kano with a sterm warning to deal ruthlessly with any group attempting to cause unrest.
Although, the police were not specific about the identity or mission of the said group, the command said 17 persons have been apprehended in connection with the said violent protest.
