Nigeria U-17 Captain, Simon Cletus: A New Mikel Obi On The Rise

The captain of the Nigeria U17 team Simon Cletus who is starring at the ongoing WAFU B tournament has drawn comparison with former captain and legend of the senior national team of Nigeria John Obi Mikel, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports

Cletus picked up his second consecutive man of the match award helping the team to their first win of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Niger Republic. They started the tournament by playing a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso.

In both games, Cletus was voted the man of the match as he stood tall in the middle of the park for Nigeria dictating play and getting into opposition box with ease in the same manner, like a young Obi at the 2003 U17 World Cup in Finland. …CONTINUE READING

The Mavlon academy star has already caught the attention of top teams in Europe, but head coach of the team Manu Garba is calling for caution with the hype around his performance so far saying their achievement as a team is more valuable than any player distinguishing himself.

He (Cletus) is an awesome talent but it’s too early to say he is this or that. Right now our focus is on how to make it to the AFCON via this tournament and we still have a long way to go”, the coach told OwnGoalNigeria.com.
