The Senate Beckons: Ogun East Unites Behind Dapo Abiodun

● Many Voices, One Mandate: Ogun Endorses Dapo Abiodun

In a powerful display of political harmony and calculated succession, leaders, delegates, and influential stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Ogun East Senatorial District yesterday rallied behind Dapo Abiodun, formally presenting and endorsing him as the consensus candidate of the zone for the 2027 senatorial election.

The endorsement, rich in symbolism and political significance, unfolded like a carefully orchestrated declaration of confidence, one rooted not merely in party loyalty, but in the collective conviction that Governor Abiodun’s transition from the executive chamber in Abeokuta to the red chambers of the National Assembly would further deepen Ogun East’s influence within Nigeria’s evolving political architecture.

The gathering drew an imposing constellation of APC powerbrokers and elder statesmen, among them the party’s consensus gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State, Olamilekan Adeola, alongside former deputy governors Yetunde Onanuga, Segun Adesegun, and Gbenga Kaka, whose combined presence lent gravitas and historic weight to the occasion.

Also present were the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi; Deputy Chairman, Chief James Dina; Chairman of Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Lekan Mustapha; and Chairman of APC in Ogun East Zone, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin, all representing the intricate pillars of the party’s structure across the district.

As the atmosphere swelled with applause and affirmation, former Deputy Governor Segun Adesegun rose to formally present Governor Abiodun before the assembly of leaders and stakeholders, declaring that party faithful across Ogun East had unanimously resolved to adopt the governor as the APC’s consensus senatorial candidate for 2027.

His words carried the cadence of certainty rather than persuasion.

For the district’s political establishment, the endorsement was portrayed not as an imposition of ambition, but as the organic convergence of trust, performance, and strategic foresight.

Senator Lekan Mustapha echoed that sentiment with measured conviction. According to him, the adoption of Governor Abiodun reflected the collective wisdom of Ogun East, a deliberate decision anchored in the desire to secure experienced, effective, and intellectually grounded representation at the National Assembly.

He recalled the historic stakeholders’ meeting of April 20, where leaders across the district unanimously aligned behind the governor’s candidacy, noting that yesterday’s gathering was convened to formally transmit that decision to both the governor and the broader party leadership.

In a symbolic moment layered with political meaning, Dr. Adeleke Ogundoyin formally handed Governor Abiodun over to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, urging the state leadership to forward his name to the national secretariat of the party as the official APC flag bearer for Ogun East Senatorial District.

The gesture drew sustained applause from delegates and stakeholders, many of whom viewed the consensus arrangement as a masterstroke designed to preserve unity while consolidating the party’s dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Responding to the endorsement, Governor Abiodun appeared visibly moved by the overwhelming show of confidence.

With humility woven through his remarks, the governor described the consensus arrangement as a profound demonstration of political maturity, unity of purpose, and shared commitment to the enduring progress of Ogun East and Ogun State at large.

He thanked party leaders, elders, delegates, and stakeholders for the faith reposed in him, pledging that he would not betray the trust and confidence bestowed upon him by the people of the district.

The governor assured residents and party faithful that, if elected to represent Ogun East in the Senate, he would pursue purposeful, people-centred, and impactful representation capable of attracting greater development, stronger federal presence, and expanded democratic dividends to the district.

Governor Abiodun also reserved special appreciation for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he credited for the unprecedented support extended to Ogun State since the commencement of his administration.

He further commended leaders of Ogun East for choosing cohesion over conflict, noting that the adoption of a consensus candidate would significantly strengthen the APC’s internal stability and electoral preparedness ahead of 2027.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the ideals and programmes of the party, the governor promised to continue working in close alignment with stakeholders across Ogun East to sustain and expand the developmental momentum already recorded under his administration.

He equally extended gratitude to Senator Olamilekan Adeola, former deputy governors, party executives, elders, and grassroots stakeholders for their solidarity and steadfast support, expressing confidence that the APC would emerge even more united and victorious in the years ahead.

Beyond the speeches and political formalities, however, the gathering projected something deeper: a district seeking continuity through consensus, and a party determined to transform unity into electoral inevitability.

For Ogun East, the message was unmistakable. The journey toward 2027 may still be unfolding, but the district has already begun to move with one voice, one direction, and one carefully chosen standard-bearer.
