The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate claims by various state governments on the expenditures incurred in reconstructing federal roads in the country.
The House said its decision became necessary in order to determine the propriety of such claims, and integrity of the construction works done, among others.
Consequently the House mandated its Standing Committees on Works and Finance to investigate the claims and report back to the House within four weeks.
The resolutions followed the unanimous adoption of a motion tagged: “Need to investigate the claims by state governments of expenditures incurred on rehabilitation of federal roads in their states,” sponsored by Hon. Mohammed Kabir Ajanah at plenary yesterday.
He noted media reports that the National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday, September 17, 2015, approved the disbursement of N535.596 billion to various states of the federation as a refund of expenditures they claimed to have incurred in the maintenance of federal roads across the country.
He also pointed out the acknowledgement by NEC that 13 states have complied fully with the requirements for the reimbursement of funds used in maintaining federal roads in their states while eight states have complied partially and 21 states have not complied at all.
