Strip Clubs Give Yuletide A New Meaning

This Christmas, many certain people made a killing from the busy nightlife of the Lagos metropolis. They include strip club proprietors. That strip clubs have become a permanent feature on the Lagos social map is a known fact, but that the phenomenon has become a profitable cash cow in spite of the bleak economy, remains a cause for wonder.

In Ikeja, Lagos alone, there are about four of such clubs with different classes of clientele. Drinks are sold far above street prices. Beers, which are normally sold for N200 could sell as high as N2,000 a pop. But, really, the thrill for their patrons is hardly the drink but to see young, voluptuous ladies of all shapes and sizes dancing in the nude and performing various sexual acts on stage.

The lights are low inside but the display is bright and enticing, vivid and uncensored. One after the other, the ladies, butt-naked, jump on to the stage to outdo themselves in wanton dance routines.

There are other such gasp-inducing moments. Patrons are known to ask for exclusive lap dance sessions ranging from N2,000 to N5,000, but during Xmas period, it was increased to N10,000 depending on what the brief was.

Interestingly, these routines are done in the open with other guests paying scant attention. Nobody cares about a ‘couple’ bucking and clawing, though outright sex is not served on the menu. In some of these clubs, there are VIP sections where only privileged members have access.

A peep into the VIP section would rouse nostalgic feelings of Sodom and Gomorrah. Though real sex is said to be forbidden here too, but they have a way of surmounting the rules. In the last one year, agents of the state government have come down heavily on operators of these clubs. The clientele at the strip bars ranges from young, social upstarts who just happened on loose money and are ready to exhaust it on wanton pleasure
