Why Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona was absent at late friend, Bayo Kuku’s burial

AwujaleWhen the gray drizzle of horror induced by betrayal takes on the quality of physical and emotional pain, it is entirely natural that the victim begins to react in ways that are totally remote from normal experience.Little wonder His Royal Majesty (HRM), Oba Sikiru Adetona was visibly absent at the burial of his late friend, Bayo Kuku. Until he died last week, few people knew that, Kuku, an Ijebu high Chief was ill for over 5 years. And very few people knew that late Kuku and Awujale were not on talking terms. Many had expected that Oba Adetona would send his staff of office and a high powered delegation of Ijebu royalty but he didn’t. All the 60 Ijebu Obas who are fiercely loyal to the Awujale were absent at Kuku’s burial as they were scared of how Awujale would react if they attended or sent their staff of office. Only four kings called Awujale’s bluff and sent their staffs of office. Awujale and late Kuku started their fight years ago, when Awujale discovered Bayo who was his friend, was supporting his younger brother, Prince Supo, against him. Awujale and his late brother reportedly fought over their late mother’s property and petty sibling rivalry and egoism for many years till Prince Supo died last year. He was really upset that Kuku whom they shared a lot together could pitch his tent with his brother. As if that was not enough shock for Awujale, it was gathered that Kuku did not feel any compunction whatsoever at the alleged backstab. Kuku too was allegedly upset that Awujale could also think he would gang up against him. And the two respected men could not settle the matter amicably and had to part ways.
