The Nigerian government has reiterated that private aircraft, including those owned by notable figures such as Bishop David Oyedepo, must adhere to strict clearance protocols before flying in or out of the country.

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, disclosed this during a Sunday interview on Channels TV.

“No private plane or drone can take off or land without following proper procedures,” Keyamo asserted. …CONTINUE READING

He explained that all private flights must first land at an international airport to undergo thorough processing by Customs, Immigration, and the NDLEA.

This procedure is mandatory, even for departures, ensuring compliance with established security protocols.

Keyamo’s remarks followed recent debates about private airstrips in Nigeria. The House of Representatives had earlier called for the revocation of licenses granted to some individuals and organizations, including Bishop Oyedepo, amid allegations of security breaches linked to illegal arms imports.

Addressing these concerns, Keyamo emphasised, “Authorities closely monitor airstrip operations to ensure that all aircraft are properly cleared.” He reassured the public that the government prioritizes safety and accountability in aviation.

The government’s stance comes as part of its efforts to curb the misuse of private airstrips for illicit activities.

The minister’s comments have sparked renewed interest in the regulations governing private aviation in Nigeria, highlighting the balance between security and operational convenience for private jet owners
