At least 4 people are feared dead after violence in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State as the State goes to vote in its governorship elections, according to Vanguard Newspaper.
On Saturday morning, gunmen allegedly attacked the town of Oporoma, a town in the Southern Ijaw LGA, with the intent of stealing election materials.
During a subsequent shootout, security forces killed three of the gunmen. A stray bullet reportedly killed a fourth person, a civilian.
These measures included the deployment of 14,500 police officers by Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, as well as the deployment of 10,000 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) personnel by Commandant Abdullahi Gana Muhammad.
