Speaking during the event, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, praised the participants for their dedication and enthusiasm. “This initiative is a key part of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision to build a healthier and more active Lagos. The excitement we’ve seen today reflects the potential and success of the Lagos Active Challenge in motivating people to take charge of their physical health. We’re not just awarding gifts, we’re helping to create a culture where active lifestyle and well-being are a priority,” Fatodu said.
The Sanwo-Olu Lagos Active Challenge seeks to inspire Lagosians of all ages and backgrounds to incorporate vitality into their daily lives. The monthly event takes place across various communities, ensuring that fitness opportunities are accessible to everyone. Participants engage in fun yet physically challenging activities, ranging from endurance runs to strength-building exercises.
One of the winners of the October edition, Chidi Okafor, shared his excitement after receiving his prize. “I’ve always tried to stay active, but this challenge pushed me beyond my limits. Winning feels amazing, but more than that, it’s about proving to myself that I can do more. The support from the community was incredible, and I’m grateful to the Lagos State Sports Commission for creating this platform for us,” said Chidi, who was awarded smart watch, fitness gear and a free health checkup.
As the Lagos Active Challenge continues to gain momentum, the Lagos State Sports Commission has ambitious plans to expand the program. More communities will be included in future editions, ensuring that the message of well-being and active lifestyle reaches every corner of Lagos. The commission also plans to introduce new activities and challenges to keep participants engaged and excited about their fitness journey.
