Fresh hopes have emerged for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following statements by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. Kalu revealed that significant progress has been made in high level negotiations with relevant authorities to secure Kanu’s freedom.
“I am fighting for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to come out. Very soon, it will happen. Please, keep us in your prayers,” Kalu said during a forum attended by lawmakers from South East State Houses of Assembly. …CONTINUE READING
The forum, led by Kingsley Ikoro, focused on critical issues affecting the South East region. During the gathering, Kalu emphasized the need for unity among leaders and citizens to address the challenges facing the region. He stressed that internal divisions and counterproductive activities, such as the sit at home protests, have caused significant harm to the region’s development.
“The power of networking is more than money. Unity is power. We hardly recognize our own, and we lose a lot of things because of it. We need to end the sit at home people are destroying themselves. We need to come together. The power of unity, the power of growth, is important,” he stated.
Kalu also called on lawmakers to support the proposed South East Development Commission (SEDC), an initiative designed to promote reconstruction, rehabilitation, and reintegration across the region. The SEDC aims to address the social and economic challenges exacerbated by years of marginalization and unrest.
In response to rumors that President Bola Tinubu opposes the establishment of the SEDC, Kalu dismissed such claims, urging South East lawmakers to back the initiative with confidence. He emphasized that the commission would be instrumental in fostering sustainable growth and development in the region.
This renewed optimism comes as the South-East continues to grapple with socio economic challenges and political tensions. Nnamdi Kanu’s detention has been a source of contention and has sparked widespread protests and unrest across the region.
Kalu’s reassurances mark a significant step toward resolving the situation, offering hope to those advocating for Kanu’s release and for peace and progress in the South-East.
