Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Sokoto State.

The nationwide ADC primary aims to select a candidate for the 2027 presidential election
The ADC presidential primary was conducted across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The state chief returning officer, Prof. Aminu Abubakar, said Atiku polled 68,823 votes to emerge as the winner.
Atiku defeated former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and Muhammad Hayatuddeen in the contest. Abubakar said Amaechiscored 292 votes while Hayatuddeen got 319 votes.
As reported by Daily Trust, Abubakar announced the ADC presidential result on Monday, May 25, 2026, in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security personnel, and party stakeholders. According to Abubakar, a total of 69,434 votes were cast during the primary
“I therefore hereby declare Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate with the highest number of votes cast in Sokoto.”
According to Musa, a total of 63,484 party members were registered for the exercise, while 61,137 votes were cast.
Declaring the results, the returning officer said Rotimi Amaechi scored 191 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen polled 146 votes.
Atiku Abubakar secured a total of 60,500 votes
Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and the ADC governorship candidate in the state, Mannir Dan Iya, two Senatorial candidates of Sokoto South, Faruk Malami Yabo, and the state party chairman, Abdullahi Maigwandu, were present at the event. Atiku’s victory came after Sokoto ADC announced him as their sole candidate ahead of the 2027 presidential primary election.
Also, chairman of the ADC Presidential Primary Election Committee in the state, Alhaji Namadi Musa, who also served as the returning officer, announced the results in Gusau the Zamfara State Capital.
He stated that, the election was conducted across all 147 wards in the 14 local government areas of Zamfara State, in line with the party’s constitution and primary election guidelines.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, scored 6,050 votes to defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Muhammad Hayatuddeen in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary held in Ebonyi State.
Declaring the result, the Coordinator of Electoral Matters and Returning Officer for the exercise, Bassey Edogi Imoke, said the election was conducted peacefully and in an organised manner across the wards in the state.
According to him, Amaechi polled 6,050 votes to emerge victorious, while Atiku secured 1,210 votes and Muhammad Hayatuddeen garnered 4,840 votes
Recall that Atiku asserted that democracy is solidifying in Nigeria after voting in the ADC presidential primary elections. The ADC’s presidential primary featured candidates Atiku, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen amid stalled consensus efforts. Atiku, previously in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), came second in the 2023 presidential election.
