Over 6,000 workers have been paid about N700million by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) as compensation under its Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS).

The acting managing director of the fund, Ismail Akaga made the disclosure yesterday in Abuja while declaring open a training workshop for staff of the fund.

Akaga also hinted that over 36,000 employers and over seven million employees are currently registered on the scheme.

He explained that the ECS is still relatively new in Nigeria but is fast growing and gaining the confidence of Nigerians, which has continued to influence the training and re-training of staff to meet new challenges.

Explaining further, the acting MD said the fund is partnering with other relevant stakeholders such as Nigeria Employers Consultative Forum (NECA) to ensure that more workers are covered under the scheme.

Akaga said the fund is committed to delivering world class social security to Nigerians.
