Five passengers were reported dead while eight others were injured in an accident which occurred on Monday at about 1:58pm around the Fidiwo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The fatal crash involved a Mazda bus with registration number EKY582 YE and another Mercedes Benz truck with no plate number.

The truck reportedly suffered tyre burst on motion after which it lost control and rammed into the Mazda bus.

This was according to a statement from the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe.

The statement partly read, “The fatal crash occurred at about 1358 hrs on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Fidiwo.

Two vehicles were involved with registration number EKY582 YE Mazda bus and a Mercedes Benz truck with no registration number on it.

“A total of 15 persons were involved (eight male adult and seven female adult). Eight persons were injured from the crash (five male adult and three female adult) while five persons were recorded death (four male adult and one female adult).

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were tyre bust, speed which led to lose of control on the part of the truck and crash with the bus while on motion.

“The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector, CC Anthony Uga, is pained by the unfortunate incident that claimed lives of five persons on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“He advised motorists to pay more attention on tyres and avoid the use of worn- out or expired tyres”.
