Fuel Price: Tinubu Moves to End Burden on Nigerians

“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun fresh efforts to reduce the pressure Nigerians are facing following the recent increase in fuel prices.

The move comes amid growing complaints over the rising cost of living across the country.

Governor Umar Namadi spoke to residents after hosting the Emir of Dutse and other traditional rulers at the Hawan Bariki Durbar on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, the governor said the president is deeply concerned about the situation.

He noted that steps are already being rolled out to ease the burden, especially in the area of transportation.

Namadi explained that the spike in petrol prices has been worsened by ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have affected global oil supply and pricing. This, he said, has led to increased transport fares and higher costs of goods and services.

“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” Namadi said.

He added that part of the federal government’s response includes plans to introduce alternatives that will bring down the cost of movement for Nigerians. Transport fares have surged in recent weeks, making daily commuting difficult for many workers and traders.

The governor also assured that the federal government is not ignoring the situation. He said directives have been issued to relevant agencies to begin implementing relief measures.

At the state level, Namadi said the Jigawa government will support the federal efforts with its own policies and intervention programmes. These, he noted, will focus on easing the economic strain on residents and improving access to basic needs.

He admitted that the current situation remains tough for many households. However, he expressed confidence that the combined efforts of both federal and state governments will gradually bring stability.

Across the country, Nigerians have continued to express frustration over the rising cost of petrol. The increase has triggered a chain reaction, affecting food prices, transportation, and other essential services.
