Kebbi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mohammed Usman Zuru, who passed away on Monday evening, 6 April, 2026, while receiving medical treatment in Cairo, Egypt.

The announcement was made in an official statement issued by the Kebbi State House of Assembly and signed by Murtala Adamu Diri on behalf of the legislative body.

The late Speaker, widely known as Lifiddan Zuru, represented Zuru Constituency and was a key political figure from the Zuru Emirate. He served as the presiding officer of the 10th Kebbi State Assembly, where he played a central role in legislative proceedings and governance within the state.

His death marks a significant loss not only to his constituents but also to the entire legislative arm of Kebbi State, the broader political community, and the country at large. Colleagues and associates have described his passing as a devastating blow, given his influence and contributions to the development of the state.

Although full details surrounding his illness were not disclosed, it was confirmed that he died while undergoing treatment abroad.

As of the time of filing this report, arrangements for his burial have not been officially announced. However, the Kebbi State Government and his family are expected to release further details, including funeral plans and condolence messages, in the coming days.

Tributes have begun to pour in from political leaders, associates, and residents, many of whom have taken to various platforms to express grief and pray for the repose of his soul.
