US President Donald Trump once hinted at the Premier League club he ‘supports’ in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Trump, 78, was inaugurated on Monday 20 January, in a ceremony at the United States Capitol rotunda in the country’s capital city Washington D.C.

It was the 60th event of its kind and the second involving Trump, who is now embarking on his second tenure as president of the US. …CONTINUE READING

As ever with high-profile world affairs, people from all corners of the globe have questions about several different aspects of the celebrity’s/public figure’s lives – namely, football fans.

But who, if anyone, does the 78-year-old support?

Well, speaking to journalist and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan back in January 2018, the topic of football (or soccer as Trump might say) was brought up in an interview on ITV.

“The moment I invite President Trump to be Arsenal’s new manager – because he’d build a strong defensive wall, have an attacking philosophy & want to win big trophies at all costs,” Morgan tweeted in January 2018.

During the interview Trump revealed how his son Barron “loves” the sport before Morgan questioned if he was a fan of the Gunners while unveiling an Arsenal shirt with ‘Trump 45’ emblazoned on the back.

“That’s beautiful, I have a son who does love this sport,” said Trump.

“And he loves Arsenal, right?” quipped Morgan.

“Are you an Arsenal fan, too?” added the British journalist.

“Not particularly, no,” replied Trump.

A disappointed Morgan then joked that Trump had “killed the dream”. However, no one expected the New Yorker to hint at his support for one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals.

“I have a friend who owns Manchester United,” revealed the US president.

The “friend” who Trump was referring to was Edward Glazer, son of Malcolm Glazer, who holds a majority stake in United after his father purchased the club for $5.4B in 2005. In 2023, Edward and his five siblings sold 25 percent of their 68 percent stake in the club to British chemical billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

The Glazers still own NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, after their father acquired the side for $192m in 1995, according to Forbes. Edwards co-chairs his brothers Joel and Bryan on the club’s board.
